chemistry blog #1 period 10

When I signed up for Chemistry I thought it would be a lot of sitting in a desk and taking notes, but I like how on the first day we didn’t even have a syllabus but instead we got right into the lab making boats. I like to do things more hands on and some notes with those labs or whatever. I have noticed that you don’t like to make us sit there and listen very often which is something I love because it’s the end of the day and we just want  to go home so by getting us up and moving the time goes faster and it is fun.

I liked how we had to try to decide whether a reaction was physical or chemical by watching the reaction take place right in front of us, other teachers might have done the lab in the front of the room and had us watch but I know that I learn better if I do the lab with a group.

My favorite lab was where we burnt the magnesium over the Bunsen burner It reminded me of in the summer when we buy a big pack of fireworks and there are these little disc things called disco flashers and when they start on fire they are really bright and you almost can’t look at them.

If I had to pick a another favorite lab it would be burning the steel wool because our group was confused as to why it gained mass after it was burnt and you made us think about why that could happen then we ended up figuring it out and we got to be the group to present that on a whiteboard.

I like how we put our data on whiteboards and either present them or just put them up or discuss as a class. I feel like we can learn more from discussing and one group may have found something other group’s maybe didn’t.
I like this class a lot better than I thought I would, I really thought I would dread taking this class but I have been enjoying it so far. I think I like it because it is one of my two classes that are not "slacker" classes and it makes me feel smart.
